Atomic Moon, Singleton 2007

Keys on the floorboard,
fingers digging past
lost cigarette butts,
McDonald's reciepts,
dashboard buttons fallen
in the dark
to find them,
Two keys to the car,
one to the house,
one to the Storage Shed where
memories are buried for ninety-nine
dollars a month,
one to the post office box
three cities ago,
just to crank the damned engine
in the cold and
barrel out,
blonde hippie chic
under the
Steven Kingish,
Halloweenish,
Jack-o-lantern
laughing moon....

And drive here.
Where pink ladies paid $7.95 an hour
drape her in Este Lauder perfumes
and dripping vintage beads,
bathe her in bargain basement
dress-me-ups.....

She slides through the
swinging doors,
keys clanging
on the bars of
the old pocketbook
bouncing off her hip,
sashaying
swinging
singing
into the blackened parking lot....

Cinderella....

Cinderella... the seƱora hermosa, the hippie chic, flapper & even the bride-to-be... all have their moments of lost keys, black asphalt, swinging doors & dirty feet...but only the lucky few are so blessed by your words. ILY sister!

I love it. Your voice is incredible.

Keys dangling, motor chugging, carrying a laddy of style to her destination.

And it better not turn into a freakin' pummkin. Midnight is still a ways off in the dark.

Clink!

How the hell do we find each other
tangled in these pages
and know
the time and place to be.... Go! Plaster the walls, paint 'em every shade of upside down,
Cinderella is waiting in her
underworld carriage...
watching for the neon lights

First prom jitters
she points her toes
in silver shoes
and sneaks
glittered peeks out
the limo window....
it's really a chevette,
but not tonight,
with it's push button ignition
and racing stripes
the color of pumpkins
on the highway

The contrast between this poem and the one above is great. Both beauty and fatigue are captured so well, despite their seemingly opposite contents.

I kind of like poems with a seedy underbelly, for some reason. They seem to be smirking at me, making fun of themselves in such a smart way.

Princess

This one is all Singleton's doing. She has a way with lines that sheds light on the the darkest of angles and that highlights a certain drama.

Again, thank you for the visit. I'm glad to share this space with everyone.

I'm sure Sing can shed some more light on this one.
